The four-cylinder diesel engine with Variable Twin Turbo.
Never underestimate the power of diesel. The BMW 123d is the world's first four-cylinder diesel engine with Variable Twin Turbo. In the engine block, now made solely of aluminium, two different-sized turbochargers are deployed sequentially to dispense extra power right across the rev range. Together with third-generation common rail injection, they push output up to a remarkable 150 kW/204 hp. And keep fuel consumption levels down to just 54.3 mpg.
